What is IDentIDog?

In 2005, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita displaced a vast number of dogs and their families. This meant that when they arrived at their new destinations, thousands of families were unable to board their pets or receive vet assistance due to the fact their current vet records had been destroyed in the hurricane. In addition, many pets were found in the aftermath of the storms, but their owners were unable to be located. Sadly, most owners and pets will never be reunited.

A recent study of 1,000 animal shelters, conducted by the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, reports that approximately one million dogs were taken in as strays. Unfortunately for both owners and animals, only 16% of these dogs were returned to their owners.

By registering your dog with the IDentIDog program, you can greatly increase the chance that you and your pet will be reunited. Owners will be given the ability to immediately print and email multiple "Missing" posters at no additional cost. These posters can contain your dog's name, photo, breed, distinguishing marks, owner's emergency contact information, "Last Location Seen", "Date Lost" and "Reward" if applicable. Click here to view a sample poster.

Additionally, if an emergency situation should arise while you and your pet are on vacation or away from your family vet, you can rest assured that you will have instant access to your pet's current vet records via the internet.

How Does it Work?

In the event your pet becomes missing from home, needs emergency care in an "out of town" environment, or needs to be boarded at a new kennel, you will have immediate access to your pet's most current information via our IDentIDog ID Card.

The IDentIDog ID Card will contain your "owner specific" ID Code Number. This Code Number will allow you or your pet's caregiver to gain instant access to your pet's file, without having to enter your username or password. Accessing a file using your IDentIDog Code will give you the ability to only VIEW your pet's file. To UPDATE information in a pet's file, you must Login using the Username and Password established when the file was created. Your main owner file can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any global location at no additional cost. If applicable, multiple pets will each have their own separate files that may be stored under the same ID Code Number.

Once registered, the owner may print out multiple temporary ID Cards at no additional cost from the IDentIDog website. You will receive your permanent ID Card in the mail in 7-10 days after registering.

A dog's file, at your discretion, can contain the following:

  • Pet's photograph, name, sex and breed
  • Pet's distinguishing traits (markings, etc.)
  • Owner's name and contact information
  • Secondary emergency contact information
  • All current veterinary records (entered and verified by the owner)
  • Veterinary contact information

Once a file is established, the owner will also be given the ability to print "Missing" posters in the event you pet should disappear. This poster can then be directly and immediately emailed to local shelters, etc. The missing poster will contain the following information that will be automatically uploaded from your pet's file :

  • Pet's Photo
  • Pet's Name, Sex, Breed
  • Distinguishing Characteristics (Collar, Markings, etc.)
  • Owner and Secondary Contact Information
  • "LAST LOCATION SEEN", "DATE LOST" and "REWARD" (if applicable) will entered by the owner at the time the poster is created.

Additionally, the owner will also have the ability to immediately email the updated Missing Poster to area shelters, etc. to expedite the process of finding their missing pooch.

If your pet should become missing while in the care of others, the caretaker can access your file using your ID Code Number, and print out Missing posters as needed. The caretaker may VIEW YOUR FILE ONLY. They will not be able to alter information in any way without access to your individual specific password.

What is the Cost to Participate in the IDentIDog Program?

There is a one-time fee of $25 to establish a dog's file in the IDentIDog database. You may then register additional pets for $5 per pet. There will then be a $10 per year renewal fee to maintain your main owner file. If the renewal fee is not paid as required, the owner will still have access to his or her pet's information, but they will be unable to alter or update the information until the fee is paid.

There is NO ADDITIONAL FEE associated with updating your file or printing temporary ID Cards or Missing posters. You may, however, order additional "Permanent" ID Cards for $2.50 per card. Shipping is included in the cost.
